Collections
Diocesan and special collections should be made out and sent to the Diocese of Brooklyn/Compostela Fund EXCEPT for the two Propagation of the Faith collections:
Summer Mission Appeal
Dates determined by you and the missionary representative
The Summer Mission Appeal is remitted depending on when your assigned missionary is scheduled. This collection helps the specific missionary group that visited your parish.
World Mission Sunday
Every penultimate Sunday in October
World Mission Sunday always falls on the penultimate Sunday in October. It is a pontifical collection that is taken globally and sent to the Vatican, which allocates those funds to the neediest Dioceses around the world.
These two collections should be made out and sent to “Propagation of the Faith.”
Customized remittance forms for both collections are sent to your parishes, and generic versions are uploaded to SharePoint.
If you still need one, contact

or kschmidt@diobrook.org.
For information about other collections (Diocesan Mission, CRS, Black & Indian, etc.), please contact the chancery.
Our Annual Financial Report contains a letter from the Director, parish collection totals categorized by borough, amounts collected from Catholic Schools, Academies and Faith Formation programs throughout the diocese, various miscellaneous donations given to the missions, and a gratitude page to businesses that sponsored parish calendars.
Calendars
The Propagation of the Faith provides Catholic calendars in a variety of art styles and languages (now also available in Haitian Creole and Tagalog). Many funeral homes and other businesses in the diocese sponsor calendars for our parishes. Previously, packets were mailed to your rectories every year with samples and paperwork. These have been replaced by emails that are sent every spring with images and ordering info.
Even if you already receive calendars from your funeral home, ask your funeral directors if they would like to support the missions by getting their calendars through the Propagation of the Faith office. Our calendars are competitively priced, have popular art styles, and switching to our calendars is easy to set up. You can get the same, free calendars and simultaneously support the missions!
If you don’t currently get any calendars, please consider supporting the missions through ours. Every year we get calls from parishioners who ask where they can get calendars because their parish doesn’t have any! If you have a different sponsor in mind (other businesses have sponsored calendars besides funeral homes), or are willing to pay for your parish’s own order, please consider ordering through the Propagation of the Faith.
To initiate the process or if you have any questions, contact Kara Schmidt at (718) 965-7326 or kschmidt@diobrook.org.

“Designated Gifts” and “Twinning” Projects
Designated Gifts are donations sent through the Propagation of the Faith office directly to a diocese or ministry. Recipients receive all of the funds—it is a direct “in-and-out” transaction. Many parishes are twinned with overseas dioceses or churches and send the bishop or priest collections through the Propagation of the Faith office. Sometimes groups or individuals wish to send funds safely to a specific missionary ministry. When you support overseas ministries through the Propagation of the Faith office, your parish will be acknowledged in the Annual Financial Report for the Diocese of Brooklyn and given credit to the National Office in Manhattan.

Vestments and Religious Articles
The Propagation of the Faith is in great need of vestments, sacred vessels, and other religious articles (used or new). We pass these items on to missionaries who visit our office and bring them back to their home countries. Such items go a long way in mission lands! Please keep us in mind when you clean your sacristies and rectories. To arrange delivery or pick-up, contact Dcn. Lou at (718) 965-7300 ext. 1212 or lpanico@diobrook.org.

Mass Book Overflow
Parishes with overflow Masses can forward their stipends and intentions to the Propagation of the Faith office. Masses will be said by missionary priests around the world, most of which come from India, Haiti, and various African countries. Please call (718) 965-7326 for more information. We are extremely grateful for your thoughtfulness!

General Donations to the Propagation of the Faith
The Propagation of the Faith office is not subsidized by the Diocese and relies entirely on donations. Some parishes have given to the Propagation of the Faith in lieu of ordering calendars or simply out of the desire to support the missions. When churches are already struggling financially, we are humbled by such selfless generosity.
