Academies and Faith Formation

The Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) is the “children helping children” branch of the missions. Young people can learn about the missions and support them in a meaningful way – through both prayer and financial giving – with the help of MCA materials. While students of Catholic Academies and Religious Education programs are the majority of participants, any children are welcome to support children in the missions through the MCA.

Mite Boxes

Named after the “widow’s mite” from Luke 21:1-4, Mite Boxes are a way to make even the most minuscule sacrifice. Traditionally Mite Boxes are ordered and distributed for the Lenten season, but all materials (posters, bookmarks, and other aids) are available year-round. Principals and DREs from around the diocese distribute Mite Boxes to their students, but pastors, parents, and anyone willing to donate may order materials.

In addition to Lent, you can coordinate giving through walk-a-thons, dress down days, mission fairs, competitions between classes, and a myriad of other activities.

Donation Return Form

When Lent or Advent is over, or your project is concluded, donations collected may be returned to the Propagation of the Faith office with this Donation Return Form.

World Mission Sunday

Catholic Academies and Religious Education programs that donated to the MCA are awarded at the World Mission Sunday Mass. Students are encouraged to attend the Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph in Brooklyn, where plaques are presented by the Diocesan Director. For more information, visit the World Mission Sunday page or contact our MCA Coordinator Deacon Lou (below).
